It's amazing how light this day feels. I didn't have to study before class started, and we were done by 2.
The class average for that last exam was a 70 (without the curve). That means about half the class (54) failed. That is crazy!
The good news is today we finally got to open up our cadaver. We bone-sawed open the sides and top of the rib cage, and then flipped it open like a hinge. There we were greeted with two very small lungs and a GINORMOUS heart. Upon feeling the lungs we knew something wasn't right, and sure enough, our guy had severe emphysema. His lungs felt like microfiber bean bags (that's not good), and you could see tar and all kinds of black. Because his lungs were so clogged up, his heart had to grow to compensate for everything, and his heart is about the size of an toddler's head. It's supposed to be the size of your fist. It was a pretty neat experience. Interestingly enough though, all 8 bodies showed some sign of lung damage. The moral of the story is don't smoke/coal mine/live in a place with asbestos.
