Last Weds was our phys exam, which I did ok with. The grade was lower than I thought it would be, but everyone else said the same thing. It didn't bring down my overall grade though, so I am happy.
After our phys exam we had a meeting giving the basics of our History and Physical course, which is our bread and butter as a PA. It made me really excited! We start seeing standardized patients in two weeks, which is crazy to think.
After the meeting I took off for New England. I stayed the night in Mass, then left for Maine early the next morning. I was able to spend time with my family, which involved a lobster dinner and seeing Inception with my siblings. I also had an experience as a patient, as while I was [stupidly] trying to break up a fight between two dogs, my finger got in the way and was sliced open enough that I knew I had to see a doc. Thankfully there weren't any other patients at my family doctor's office, because I was able to be seen right away. I got four stitches, put on antibiotics, and he showed me how to take the stitches out with a scalpel blade he gave me. That will be fun to do!
Friday I spent some time at the ocean with friends, and it was incredibly peaceful. I then drove back to Mass and played softball, had some good food, saw all my families, and overall had a very relaxing break.
Today was our first H+P class, and I loved that the prof used the episode from The Office where Michael burns his foot to explain the basics of the medical history.
Last but certainly not least, I finally got my stethoscope!!! I ordered it two months ago but something happened where either the PO lost it, or it was packaged incorrectly. They finally sent me a new one. I had it engraved, and I definitely listened to my own heart beat as soon as I got it out of the box :)
