What a busy two weeks! Here is a summary of it all:

Monday (Labor Day): literally stayed at the apartment and studied all day since nothing was open
    Tuesday 9/7:
    • Exam
    • Quiz
    • Lecture on child abuse (complete with pictures)
    • Meeting over lunch (but got lunch for free!)
    • Class/study all night
    • Made fajitas and tater tots for my birthday!
    Wednesday 9/8:
    • Class
    • Patient #3. He was AWESOME. I didn't get everything in because we had to do a full skin exam and he had lots of skin problems, but he was such a gem of a person. I was called ma'am more times in that hour than in my entire life.
    • Free supper at the Family Medicine Club meeting
    • Study the rest of the night
    Thursday 9/9:
    • Lab where I learned how to use my ophthalmoscope and saw the inside of someone's eye! (And my partner's optic disc, thanks to the class Panoptic!)
    • Learned how to flip a patient's eyelids to check for foreign bodies (and keep them there like those little kids in grade school)
    • Studied most of the day
    • Free supper at Sports Medicine Club meeting
    • Studied the rest of the night
    Friday 9/10:
    • Studied all morning
    • Small group review
    • Finally got back my first HP writeup and I did well!
    • Video critique
    • Got back my patient evaluation and it turns out he loved me too! It's one of those things you keep in a box to cheer you up on a special day:
"A very gracious and thorough lady. She impressed this patient with her bright smile and sparkling personality. The patient felt he could rely on her abilities. She was warm and caring."
The thing is, he was so incredibly nice that I doubt he would have known what kind of constructive criticism to give!
    • Study the rest of the evening
    • Catch up on a little tv
    Saturday 9/11:
I was literally at school from 8am-8pm, except for when I went to Chipotle to grab lunch (and study).

    Sunday 9/12:
Church, grocery shopping,  then I was at school from 1-8 studying.

    Monday 9/13:

    • HENT skin written exam. I did ok. My grade didn't reflect the amount of time I spent studying, but the questions I got wrong didn't have much to do with taking a physical anyway, so I'm not concerned. The good thing is that I have learned so much for when I'm out on rotations. Especially all the skin stuff!
    • Health Policy 1-3
    • Practiced for HENT practical
    Tuesday 9/14:
    • HENT practical. I rocked it with a 100%!!! It was tough but I managed to get everything in. The only thing was that I did gag my partner a little too hard apparently, haha. It's tough trying to do the gag reflex because the person's tongue tries to fight you off, and you have to go in for the kill. My partner was such a good sport about it!
    Weds 9/15:
    • Pharm class
    • Standardized patient #4. This time we had to incorporate the eye exam into the mix...I almost got everything completed! It's ok though, I was halfway through the sexual ROS (review of systems) and I saved that for last, so that's not as big of a deal.
    Thurs 9/16:
    • I spent all morning working on my writeup from last week's patient. We also had a meeting for our retreat.
    • Lab: today we focused on lung sounds and the thorax, which was fun! I also learned out to percuss, which was hard at first but I think I got the hang of it.
    Friday 9/17:
Class retreat! We went to a YMCA in New Jersey. We had to leave at 6:30am to avoid traffic though. Here is a rundown of the day:
    • breakfast: french toast sticks and sausage, Mmm Mmm.
    • low ropes course/team building
    • lunch
    • trivia: my team voted me up for the second round, which they soon announced was on pop culture! I groaned inside,  but thankfully I got an easy first question (First person to give up Heisman Trophy, Reggie Bush), a somewhat related second question (which reality star did Reggie Bush date, Kim Kardashian), but I lost on "What song is in the new snuggie commercial?" The Macarena!
    • Boat races (which I got to do! yeah!)
    • Scavenger hunt (I ran probably two miles all over the camp looking for stuff, I'm super out of shape and of course my cheeks stayed red for over an hour!)
    • Skits (our team got second!) we did well
We ended up getting second place for the day overall, but only because we forgot about one of the scavenger hunt items we found that was hidden in a bag. I enjoyed being outside though. I really enjoy being on the water, and it's too bad I couldn't be out there longer.

That has been my last two weeks. This coming week we have a patient, an exam and a quiz, but it shouldn't be too bad.
