We had our SP review, which is when a faculty member goes through all our tapes with our patients, and then plays clips to the class showing things we did well and things we didn't do well. It's a great idea in theory, but it can be tough to see your flaws broadcasted in front of the class. They actually picked mine to show at the end, and it was for what a good HP looks like! The prof said I was calm, confident, sincerely empathetic, a good and active listener, had good body language, and organized the material well in order to get everything done on time. She said I even handled the awkward situations properly, like when he made weird comments, and although I spoke fast at the beginning, she didn't think I went too fast through the interview like my patient said I did. She said the flow was good and I kept it going, and this is one of those times when you ignore what the patient says. I was happy!
Right now nothing is going on except I'm currently in the process of memorizing Bates (our history and physical book). There's so much info to learn! At least I really want to learn the material, it makes it easier.
We also had our activities fair today. I tenatively signed up for all these clubs, although I know I won't have the time or the money to put into them. I just thought I could at least get some initial info to see what is out there. I signed up for the Christian Medical Association, Family Med Club, Pediatrics Club, Surgery Club, and Orthopedic Surgery Club. If I were to specialize I would most likely do orthopedics/sports med, but right now I am leaning towards rural med. I like the idea of surgery, but I don't want the lifestyle. It could be a good job though. The great thing is that I don't have to pick! I still love the fact that I am trained as a generalist.
