Monday my class took the PACKRAT, which is a mock board certification exam given to test your knowledge after first year and second year, to help prepare you for the real thing, the PANCE. With the onslaught of exams happening this week and next, I didn't study for the PACKRAT but thankfully got around the class average and don't have to remediate (if you get below a certain score, my school would enact remediation exercises to help you prepare for the PANCE). I'm actually pretty happy with my score considering I hadn't looked at pulmonology or cardiology in a very long time, which was a good chunk of the exam.
So the PACKRAT was on Monday, we had a genetics quiz on Tuesday, and we had our comprehensive practical on Wednesday. Surgery exam was yesterday (Thursday). I think my comprehensive practical went ok, I got very, very lucky. I walked into the room and was greeted by a pleasant patient who was willing to work with me (we have time limits on our patient encounters and not all patients are cooperative). Not only was he a great patient, I had an easy case. He came in complaining of chest pain and after taking a history I was 99.9% positive he had stable angina. Other classmates were not as lucky; they had chief complaints such as dizziness or headache, which means they had more body systems to test with less clarity about the direction they should be going in.
Oral Boards on Monday!!!! Of the 50 presentations we're supposed to know, I know 30. This is going to be an epic three days of cramming. Pray for my classmates and me!
