My surgery rotation has officially come to a close. I finished up the last 5 or so days in surgery not really doing a lot in the OR, but getting more experience in the office and rounding on patients in the hospital, which I desparately need. Coming up with a plan for my patients who are inpatient is still a weakness of mine so I am glad I got that experience.

Monday night I was on call for the ER, and I actually got called in! I went to bed around 10, and around midnight my phone rang and I was super confused. I threw on my coat (I sleep in scrubs so I can just run over if I am needed, haha). We had an abdominal pain, chest pain, and trauma come in relatively around the same time. I was very, very groggy though and was fighting to focus as my preceptor was pimping me about stuff like central cord syndrome.

I was given Weds off as there wasn't anything going on in the OR. I traveled back down to school on Thursday, and took my surgery exam yesterday. Grades haven't been posted but it was a heck of a lot easier than my internal med exam (although it still wasn't a great exam!) One of my favorite questions was "Where is the most common location for pancreatic carcinomas in the pancreas?" One afternoon last week I was sitting with my preceptor in his office, and he said "What do you want to learn about today?" I said "Tell me about pancreatic cancer" and he got super excited because he loved the pancreas and we had some good talks. Haha.

So what is next? Emergency Medicine at a level II trauma center. I've heard it is a great rotation so I am excited to start!
